Fantastic presentation from the instructor Inga. Made the content easy to understand, and left feeling well prepared for the IAPP CIPP/E exam.
“I’m happy to recommend the CIPP/E training course to anyone considering the IAPP credential”
I attended the two-day CIPP/E course provided by JAW Consulting UK. This was part of my preparation towards the qualifying exam.
I found the communication leading up to the training event to be clear and concise – providing me with the information I needed for planning my schedule. For the course, beyond merely regurgitating the training material, I was looking for industry insights and thought leadership from the instructor. I also hoped that the quality of participants at the training would help drive discussion based on practical experiences. On both these requirements, JAW Consulting UK delivered.
I found the trainer and JAW staff were quite professional and pragmatic with the schedule – ensuring frequent breaks and being mindful of the pace. I’m happy to recommend the JAW Consulting CIPP/E training course to anyone considering the IAPP credential
“Excellent facilities and real-world knowledge sharing”
I attended the IAPP CIPP/E Training Course at JAW Consulting UK’s offices in London, UK.
The instructor Inga Kroener was great, and really helped bring the subject to life with her knowledge and enthusiasm. The interaction between the other attendees was extremely useful, sharing real-world challenges and application of the course material
The facilities in Paddington were also excellent, with the training delivered in a format which was both accessible and interesting, despite the ‘dry’ nature of some of the (legal) content. Recommended
“The reputation of the IAPP is widely recognised, so overall a great course to attend”
I attended the IAPP CIPP/E Course provided by JAW Consulting UK. As someone relatively new to the area of Data Protection & Privacy, I considered the course covered a very valuable topic to learn about.
Having both case studies and real-life examples to demonstrate and discuss how the regulation applied was very useful.
The reputation of the IAPP is widely recognised, so overall a great course to attend if you are looking to demonstrate knowledge of the EU GDPR and UK Data Protection. It will be a great skill and competence to apply to future organisations I work with.
“Thank you to the team at JAW Consulting UK for setting me up to succeed”
As a recruitment process outsourcing business with blue-chip clients, we take the protection and privacy of personal data very seriously.
As part of our internal GDPR Programme, I attended the 2-day IAPP CIPP/E course in London with JAW Consulting UK.
Starting the course with a limited knowledge of the subject matter, the instructor was able to convey complicated topics very effectively. I found both the study guides and the practical examples discussed particularly useful.
I took the CIPP/E a couple of weeks after the course and passed; thank you to the team at Jaw for setting me up to succeed

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
There is no specific certification for Data Protection Officers which is formally recognised or endorsed by supervisory or regulatory authorities such as the UK ICO.
Whilst providers may imply this thorough the name of certifications or course, supervisory bodies only state the DPO must possess the prerequisite skills for the role.
A better question to ask is which certifications provide an individual with the knowledge to uphold a DPO role and will be respected highly by both peers and industry.
The IAPP is a well respected and long-standing international professional body, with certifications held in high regard in the industry and by professional peers.
IAPP certifications are frequently requested in employer job descriptions for Data Protection Officers, Data Privacy Officers, Data Protection Consultants, Data Privacy Consultants, Data Privacy Counsel.
By selecting an IAPP certification, you can be confident it provides both the knowledge and credibility to your career profile as a DPO.
JAW Consulting UK have selected to partner with the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) due to the high quality and established record of providing certifications in this domain.
The IAPP is highly regarded across all industries as the de-facto provider of Data Protection certifications.
A keyword search on LinkedIn for IAPP certifications reveals many individuals working for prestigious blue-chip organizations who have these initials after their names working in Data Protection Officer or Data Privacy Officer roles.
A search for Data Protection Officer on job sites also reveals IAPP certification are demanded by employers in job descriptions.
The CIPP/E provides the regulatory/legal background and foundation upon which organisations need to comply with a specific focus on European data protection laws/regulations such as EU General Data Protection Regulations 2018 and the UK Data Protection Act 2018.
The CIPP/US provides the regulatory/legal background and foundation upon which organisations need to comply with a specific focus on United States federal and state-level Data Privacy and Data Protection laws/regulations such as the CCPA.
The expected focus of your role will inform which course is more suitable, or whether you may benefit from taking both.
The CIPP/E provides the regulatory/legal background and foundation upon which organisations need to comply.
The CIPM is more operational and focuses on how to establish and operate a privacy office, within an organisation.
If you have no prior experience within Data Protection & Privacy we recommend taking the combined IAPP CIPP/E + IAPP CIPM as this will provide you with the knowledge necessary for a role as a Data Protection Officer (DPO).
A number of existing DPO/Privacy Consultants may elect to take only the CIPP/E, where they believe they can learn the operational aspects via other means/ ‘on the job’.
However, if you believe you already possess a solid grounding in the regulation and legal aspects, you may then want to progress straight to the CIPM to complete your knowledge for a DPO role.
The examination is provided by PersonVUE, and includes the option for online proctoring which means there is no requirement to visit a physical examination centre.
Alternatively, you can book to take the exam in person at one of the many PearsonVUE examination centres globally.
You also receive 1 years membership to the IAPP.
We recommend you allocate 40 hours per certification.
For example, 40 hours for the CIPP/E and 40 hours for the CIPM.
IAPP certifications are valid for two years. To maintain your credential, you must meet two minimum requirements over the term of your certification:
- Pay an annual certification maintenance fee (included in IAPP’s membership fee).
- Fulfill 20 hours of continuing privacy education (CPE).
This is done by attending events, courses, talks, and performing other activities relating to the profession of Data Protection & Data Privacy.
